Civica-Coordinated Nightingale Gala Draws 500 To Westin Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Civica Management worked with the Colorado Nurses Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care and nursing practice in Colorado, to plan and produce the 2013 Nightingale Luminary gala on Saturday, May 11, at the Westin Westminster.

Civica’s staff managed the event with the assistance of many of the foundation’s officers, directors and volunteers. The gala, which drew 500 attendees, honored 38 Colorado nurses with Luminary Awards. Six of the luminaries were honored as recipients of Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Human Caring.

The Nightingale program recognizes nurses in two categories: Nurses in Clinical Practice and Administrators, Educators, Researchers, and Non-Traditional Practice Roles. Each category was recognized in one of three areas: Advocacy, Leadership, and Innovation.

The awards were founded in 1985 to honor nurses who best exemplify the philosophy and practice of Florence Nightingale, a 19th century nursing pioneer who epitomized the art of helping people toward their optimal health. Registered nurses throughout the state are nominated in the fall of each year by solicitation from the Colorado Area Health Education Centers System and the Colorado Springs and Nightingale Western Colorado Committees.

Since 1999, the Colorado Nurses Foundation has awarded 319 scholarships totaling over $400,000. CNF is devoted to creating nursing excellence through the promotion of educational and scientific activities and community-based projects in Colorado.

Civica Assists Bonfils-Stanton Foundation With Online ‘Arts Hub’ Project

Civica Management announced Tuesday that it assisted the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation in efforts last year to develop plans for an online “arts hub” serving residents statewide. Those efforts culminated in a three-year, $900,000 grant, announced Jan. 23, 2013, from the foundation to Colorado Public Radio.

Civica analyzed alternative business strategies around the proposed arts media platform. The company, headed by former Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News Business Editor Don Knox, interviewed scores of technologists, arts journalists and arts-community leaders.

As part of its investigation, Civica identified Colorado Public Radio as a potential partner, and subsequent communication between the foundation and CPR led to a formal grant application approved last month by foundation trustees. Civica’s involvement in the project ended in early October 2012, although the company has continued to maintain a research website on the project into this year.

“Having a vibrant and energized arts community is central to our mission at the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation so we’re especially excited to be able to fund this new initiative and see it come to fruition here in Colorado,” said Dorothy Horrell, president of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation.

Colorado Public Radio President Max Wycisk said: “This grant will transform the organization, providing the first full news bureau for CPR News, while substantially expanding our existing commitment to arts in Colorado through CPR Classical and OpenAir.”
