CIVICA ACHIEVES AMC INSTITUTE ACCREDITATION

Civica Management has recently been awarded accreditation by AMC Institute, the global trade association representing the Association Management industry.

Among 500-plus Association Management Companies (AMC) worldwide, just 80 have achieved AMC Institute Accreditation, demonstrating the commitment and the ability to deliver the highest level of professional management services to association and not-for-profit clients. These AMCs are the recognized choice of associations and not-for-profit organizations.

“We applaud Civica Management on this significant achievement,” AMC Institute Chair Nick Ruffin said. “AMC Institute accreditation requires that association management firms demonstrate adherence to operational and ethical best practices, as outlined in the AMC Institute Standard. Accreditation distinguishes (company name)’s ongoing commitment to leadership in association management.”

Administered by AMC Institute, AMC Institute Accreditation is recognized and supported by ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership and is based on the ANSI Standard of Good Practices for the AMC Industry. ANSI requires that the standard be reviewed and updated regularly to remain an approved standard. Measurable performance practices include contracts and service delivery; employee recruitment, training and professional development; and financial management and internal controls, among others. AMCs must earn re-accreditation every four years, demonstrating to an independent outside auditor that they continue to meet the standard.

“Accreditation from AMC Institute is an important milestone for Civica,” said Kim Gill, President of Civica Management. “It reinforces our commitment to the highest standards of professional management, operational excellence, and ethical practices. Earning this accreditation demonstrates to our current and future clients that we are dedicated to delivering exceptional service and measurable value to the associations we are privileged to serve.”

Civica Management provides full-service management and consulting to national and internataional professional and trade associations. With decades of combined experience, Civica partners with mission-driven, growth-focused organizations to deliver strategic leadership, operational support, and member-focused results. For more information, contact Kim Gill at kim.gill@civicamanagement.com.

Association Management Companies specialize in managing associations and non-profit organizations, providing leadership and professional management services through experienced staff, best practices and shared resources. As AMCs manage multiple association and non-profit clients, their experience and knowledge base are broad and substantial, positioning AMCs as the preferred choice for full-service and specialized management services.

KIM GILL NAMED PRESIDENT OF COLORADO-BASED CIVICA ASSOCIATIONS

Gill to Helm State’s Largest Management Company for Nonprofit Trade Associations & Professional Societies

AURORA, Colo. – Veteran Colorado nonprofit executive Kim Gill, 49, was named president of Civica Associations, Conferences & Exhibitions. In the position, she will direct operations of the company, which manages 18 nonprofits, including the Greeting Card Association, the American Cheese Society, and NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education.

Gill succeeds Civica founder, journalist, and tech executive Don Knox, 58, who will transition to a new role as Civica’s executive chair. In that capacity, he’ll work alongside Gill on strategic initiatives in the nonprofit space. He’ll also continue working with some Civica clients.

“This is another big step in Civica’s story of growth and innovation,” said Knox, who incorporated Civica in 2011 and built it in part through the acquisition of three Colorado-based association management companies. “To survive and thrive, nonprofits need to transform themselves, and that should also go for the management company with which they work.”

Gill said she’s excited about the opportunities of managing Civica’s clients and a team of full-time employees, contract staff, and “hybrid” executive directors, the latter of whom may or may not work directly for Civica but are essential in delivering client services.

“I’m very grateful and excited to accept the position as President of Civica,” said Gill. “I look forward to leading our extremely talented team to grow the company and our nonprofit clients through our unique blend of technology and efficiency.”

Gill has a 20-year record of nonprofit leadership in New York and Colorado and including work for professional societies and trade associations serving lawyers, Realtors and contractors. She has an MA in Marketing Communications from Boston's Emerson College and a BA in Communication Studies from the State University of New York-Oswego. She joined Civica in 2017 as the chief staff executive for several nonprofits.

Outsourced management of nonprofit trade associations and professional societies is a fast-growing segment of the nonprofit sector. Civica and other members of the AMC Institute collectively provide full-service management to more than 1,800 associations and project support to 900 associations. The total budget for associations managed by AMC Institute members exceeds $1.5 billion annually. The associations together represent 2.8 million members.

Civica statement on racism, the killing of George Floyd and the injustices perpetrated against Black Americans

We are deeply troubled by the events happening in our country right now. People are, rightfully, feeling anger, frustration and hopelessness, by the shocking and unjust death of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, at the hands of police officers, in broad daylight. It’s another outrageous example of larger, systemic racism in this country.

We stand alongside the Black community in their sorrow, pain and pursuit of justice and societal reforms. These officers must be held accountable for their appalling actions. Equally as important, we need to see real, sustainable change in our society. We can’t stand by and be silent. We must all engage in conversation, in understanding, in seeking equality, dignity and respect for all people.

Civica stands against racism and hate in all forms. We celebrate diversity. Our mission is “to support and foster the power of transformation for real impact on our communities, industries and all individuals.” This is a time where true transformation is needed. We will be part of the solution.

Over the next five years, The Bail Project will open dozens of sites in high-need jurisdictions with the goal of paying bail for tens of thousands of low-income Americans, all while collecting stories and data that prove money bail is not necessary to ensure people return to court. We won’t stop until meaningful change is achieved and the presumption of innocence is no longer for sale.

Movement for Black Lives: https://m4bl.org/

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) formed in December of 2014, was created as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate and discuss the current political conditions, develop shared assessments of what political interventions were necessary in order to achieve key policy, cultural and political wins, convene organizational leadership in order to debate and co-create a shared movement wide strategy. Civica Launches Mobile-Friendly Website For Geospatial Information & Technology Association

The Geospatial Information & Technology Association has a new mobile-friendly website through the efforts of the association’s leaders as well as of Civica Associations, Conferences & Exhibitions, which provides headquarters services for GITA.

The website launched Dec. 1 at the same URL as the previous website, www.gita.org.

The new site is responsive, meaning it provides an optimal viewing experience across a wide range of devices — phones, tablets, notebooks and desktops. It also features many new members-only communication channels, including association-wide Community Forums and Discussion Circles tailored to various geospatial interests.

As the association indicated today:

This website will help us keep our membership connected. With social networking tools for staying in touch and a space dedicated to sharing materials, our members can form new, professional connections with fellow colleagues. Member groups can be formed based on geographic region, issues, etc. Professionals say that one of the biggest reasons they join their association is the opportunity to collaborate and network with fellow members. We now have these wonderful tools to help with just that. You’ll find more information and instructions on the website about how to participate in our social community.

Over the next few weeks, Civica will work to get individual and organizational members signed in for the first time to the new site.

Civica Managing Partner To Serve On ASAE's Council For AMCs

Civica Associations Conferences & Exhibitions Managing Partner Don Knox has been named to the Association Management Company Section Council of the American Society of Association Executives.

The appointment is through August 1, 2019, with three one-year extensions possible.

The section is the professional home for principals and staff of AMCs. Membership in the section provides resources for AMC professionals who face the same challenges and share the same opportunities. The section council ensures that ASAE provides programs, services, and information that serve association professionals who are working in or interested in working in an association management company.

Knox, a former business editor of The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News, founded Civica in 2011 to help creatively meet the management and headquarters needs of small- to mid-sized trade associations and professional societies. The company provides full-service management to nearly two dozen national, regional and statewide organizations.

The AMC Section Council next meets February 6-8, 2019, in Austin, Texas.

ASAE Names Civica An Approved Provider Of CAE Credits

The American Society of Association Executives has designated Civica Associations Conferences & Exhibitions as an approved provider of continuing education for association professionals hoping to earn or renew their Certified Association Executive credential.

Civica is the first Colorado-headquartered association management company, or AMC, to be so selected.

CAE Approved Providers are organizations that formally register with the CAE program and are committed to providing education that meets the CAE Commission’s standards for helping individuals earn or maintain the Certified Association Executive credential. CAE Approved Providers have received guidance on such standards and pledged to properly represent course eligibility for CAE credit.

“When selecting a CAE-eligible course from a CAE Approved Provider, CAEs and CAE candidates can be confident that the course will be recognized for CAE credit as advertised,” the American society says. The CAE program encourages candidates and CAEs to consider qualifying courses from CAE Approved Providers to meet the professional development requirements to earn or maintain the CAE credential.

Kim Gill, MA, CAE, and a Civica chief staff executive, is heading Civica’s CAE education efforts.

GITA Selects Civica For Headquarters Management

The Geospatial Information and Technology Association has selected Civica Associations Conferences & Exhibitions for its headquarters management, beginning September 1, 2018. A two-week transition of the organization began August 15, 2018.

GITA is the premier industry association for enriching the broader geospatial community. Its mission is to educate, connect and advocate for the geospatial community.

GITA, until recently managed from St. Paul, Minnesota, has its roots in Colorado, home to the geospatial industry's "Keystone Conferences" beginning in 1978. Those conferences led in 1982 to the founding of a nonprofit organization, then called AM/FM International, "to serve this growing industry with an educational forum to exchange ideas and keep up with changing technologies."

In 1998, to better reflect the association's new focus, AM/FM International changed its name to the Geospatial Information & Technology Association. Today, GITA's North America operations are conducted within six regions. The association also has international affiliates in Japan, Hungary and Australia/New Zealand.

Civica will staff GITA's headquarters office, performing membership and financial services and advising the organization's board, among other duties.

AAEP Selects Civica For Headquarters Management

The American Association for Emergency Psychiatry has selected Civica Associations Conferences & Exhibitions for its headquarters management, beginning August 1, 2018. A two-month transition of the organization began June 1, 2018.

AAEP is is a multidisciplinary organization that serves as the voice of emergency mental health. The membership includes directors of psychiatric emergency services and emergency departments, psychiatrists, emergency physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, physician assistants, educators and other professionals involved in emergency psychiatry.

NHCA Selects Civica For Headquarters Management

The National Hearing Conservation Association has selected Civica Associations Conferences & Exhibitions for its headquarters management, beginning July 1, 2018. A one-month transition of the organization began June 1, 2018.

NHCA's mission is to prevent hearing loss due to noise and other environmental factors in all sectors of society.

The founders of NHCA were mainly audiologists and otolaryngologists who were concerned with the serious problem of noise-induced hearing impairment resulting from occupational exposure to noise. NHCA was created to provide a forum where others of similar persuasion could share information and gain increased insights regarding occupational hearing conservation.

Civica will staff NHCA's headquarters office, performing membership, financial and conference-planning services and advising the organization's board, among other duties.
